Fostering Internal Communication
Making the workplace a pathway to positive mental health cannot rely on a top-down approach. Success depends on employees.
In 2016, The Co-operators started a Mental Health group on Yammer, its internal social media forum, to create an employee space to #GetLoud and share their mental health experiences. Since then, engagement has exploded beyond all expectations—it has the highest membership of any Yammer group in the company with almost 900 members.
In addition to articles and resources, people are sharing their own mental health experiences and coping strategies—and they’ve been met with warm support. This is where the real work of destigmatizing begins: on the ground, through real human connections.
An estimated 1 in 2 people in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area’s labour force have experienced a mental health issue. Ignite mental health support in your workplace by taking the MindsMatter Assessment today.
