MindsMatter Action: Optimus SBR

With October featuring Mental Illness Awareness Week, World Mental Health Day and Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month, better workplace mental health is top of mind for many organizations. CivicAction reached out to organizations to see how they’re taking action. Read what Optimus SBR is doing below.

At Optimus SBR, people come first, period. As a consulting firm, our people are our business and we believe that their overall health and happiness has a direct correlation with our overall success. A key part of Optimus SBR’s journey has been having our people come together to define what is needed to create a work environment where people want to come to work and where they are healthy, happy, and engaged. We recognize that when people are healthy, happy, and engaged, they are able to bring their best selves to work every day and ultimately serve our clients better.

Our commitment to putting our people first has resulted in the engagement and collaboration of our people coming together to create our new office space design that encourages teamwork, promotes diversity of work styles, and fosters inclusivity.

We are constantly promoting mental wellness through a healthy lifestyle with Free Fruit twice a week and fitness challenges throughout the year.

As an organization built on culture, we have taken a very holistic and employee-driven approach to enhance our team’s well-being. Our people created-and-led committees identify and lead many of the initiatives that contribute to our culture and enhance everyone’s overall mental and physical wellness. Some of our people-led committees include:

  • Health & Wellness;

  • People & Culture;

  • Optimus Women’s Network;

  • Pro Bono;

  • Corporate Social Responsibility;

  • Ministry of Fun.

For example, Optimus SBR recently supported the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario (MDAO) through a Pro Bono engagement. After learning more about the organization, our Health and Wellness Committee (whose mandate includes mental wellness) partnered with MDAO to educate and promote awareness around mental health through a Laughing Like Crazy workshop. This has allowed us to continue on our journey of educating and creating awareness around the social stigma associated with mental health. It is initiatives like these that align with our commitment to making mental wellness a priority in our business and that’s what makes us a Great Places to Work Best Workplace for Mental Wellness.
