17-year-old Mississauga-Toronto commuter gets a seat at the transit table

If anyone understands both sides of the urban-suburban divide, it’s Catherine Vlasov.

The 17-year-old Grade 12 student commutes for over an hour each way from Mississauga to attend the University of Toronto Schools at Bloor St. W. and Spadina Ave.

Most of her childhood friends walk or get driven to school in their Cooksville neighbourhood, while many of her high school friends walk or take the TTC to the Annex school.


But Vlasov isn’t satisfied with dispelling transit myths to her friends, she’s taken her unique perspective to one of the most influential transit advisory bodies in the region: Civic Action.
