It can’t be politics as usual when it comes to tackling the region’s transit deficit, Burlington Mayor Rick Goldring told a transit conference Wednesday.
“We have to leave our municipalities behind and look at these issues across the region. We cannot be so parochial in our views,” he said during a mayors’ panel at the CivicAction forum.
The need to think and act regionally was one of two overarching themes at the conference. The second was the need to build the public’s trust and support for raising new revenue for transit.
The forum attracted the region’s big power players, from the premier and cabinet ministers to city mayors and councillors to business executives and civic leaders from all sectors.
