June 5th, 2012 - (Toronto) – On Saturday June 9th, Project Neutral will host its first ever Neighbourhood Summit bringing together experts and innovators in Sustainable Urban Living and neighbourhood leaders from Riverdale and the Junction to strategize and explore the routes towards becoming the world’s first ever urban Carbon Neutral neighbourhoods.
Co-chaired by City Councillors Paula Fletcher and Sarah Doucette with keynote speaker Ken Greenberg, the Summit is certain to spark the flame of innovation and propel these two pilot neighbourhoods to the forefront of neighbourhhod sustainability. With over 10 years of Urban Planning experience under her belt, Karen Nasmith, Managing Director and Co-founder of Project Neutral, acknowledges the ambitious nature of the Project and is “really excited to discuss how Project Neutral can enable meaningful and sustained neighbourhood-level change” and further refine the Project Neutral model to enable replication in neighbourhoods across North America.
The Summit will feature a full day of activities and expert-led discussions, including breakout sessions aimed at developing a plan of action that will move the two neighbourhoods closer to their goal of achieving a net-zero carbon effect while acting as an example to urban neighbourhoods around the world.
Project Neutral is an initiative incubated by CivicAction’s Emerging Leaders Network (ELN). Project sponsors and supporters include Evergreen Brickworks, TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, Ontario Trillium Foundation, City of Toronto LiveGreen, and the Canadian Urban Institute.
