Municipal Election Statement

Sevaun Palvetzian, CEO of CivicAction, made the following comments today after the results of the municipal elections:

October 28, 2014, TORONTO – We are entering into an exciting period of new and renewed leadership across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. On behalf of CivicAction, my congratulations to everyone who was elected and a collective thank you to all those who put their name on a ballot. It takes a lot of determination and hard work to throw your hat in the ring.

As we look forward to the next four years, we at CivicAction ask our region’s leadership to think big and to think collaboratively. We encourage you to speak to your constituents and bring the voices of many to the decisions you make. There are many issues, such as transportation, that require us to think and act like a region. CivicAction hopes to see municipalities working together to solve some of these big challenges, to which we will all benefit from solutions.

Over the last decade, CivicAction has worked with every order of government to tackle regional challenges. We will continue to do what we do best, engage the leaders – and rising leaders — of the region’s businesses, government and non-profit groups to take action on the tough urban challenges, such as youth unemployment and efficient energy use, that we face collectively.  We look forward to continuing to work with those who were re-elected and to making connections with new leaders in our region.
