The Greater Toronto CivicAction Alliance is encouraged by the federal budget delivered on March 21,2013 and sees it as a step towards alleviating the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area’s growing gridlock crisis.
The budget includes a renewal of the Government of Canada’s $47 billion infrastructure fund and an indexing of the gas tax at two per cent starting in 2014. Both of these may be used to help fund the $34 billion needed for The Big Move, a plan that will dramatically improve transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. In recognition of the region’s growing gridlock crisis, CivicAction has been leading a campaign to champion a regional transportation system and the need to fund sustainable ways to pay for it.
CivicAction is dedicated to accelerating regional transportation, enhancing economic performance, and fostering inclusion and resilience in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area. We will continue to work with our key partners, including all levels of government and political leaders and parties, to tackle these priorities for our region.
