Half an hour into a conversation with the new face of CivicAction — the Toronto region’s most important, influential and diverse alliance of activists and civic do-gooders — it’s clear the future is in good hands.
The late David Pecaut, who founded the organization to advocate for the region’s health and prosperity, would approve of Rod Phillips as board chair and Sevaun Palvetzian as CEO.
The befuddling issues are just as imposing, the solutions are equally complex and the political and social obstacles just as challenging as when Pecaut — through force of will and genius — forged the coalition of labour, business, bankers, and grassroots activists to fight for Toronto.
Only now, the next generation is driving the bus, just as Pecaut intended.
