Today the Provincial Government released Ontario’s Youth Action Plan. CivicAction applauds the Government of Ontario and Ministers Dr Eric Hoskins and Madeleine Meilleur for their leadership and balanced approach to addressing this important need.
In support of this work, CivicAction will look at how to contribute its model of collective leadership in bringing together emerging and established leaders from business, government, labour, community organizations, along with youth to explore ways to improve and create new mentorship, internship and employment opportunities for young people across the GTA.
CivicAction recognizes that there are a number of successful organizations and programs dedicated to supporting youth. Collectively we need to leverage these assets and deepen their impact. By supporting organizations to document their progress and measure their success, we can expand the scale and impact of existing work.
CivicAction has heard from hundreds of civic leaders about the importance of building strong communities, investing in residents and promoting economic development to enable people to thrive and ensure the region’s prosperity. We know that investing in youth is essential to building a strong future for the Toronto region. These are complex issues that cannot be tackled by one sector or one approach alone. There is a demonstrated role for business, government, and community organizations and young people and a need to work together to create a range of opportunities for youth. We know this is not a challenge that can be solved overnight but one that requires time and commitment over the longer term. We look forward to continuing to contribute to this important conversation and supporting the work being led by the Government of Ontario and our key partners.
