CivicAction Chair John Tory to address York Regional Council: You have a role in driving dollars for transportation improvements

Media advisory

TORONTO – November 20, 2013 – John Tory, Chair of CivicAction, will address members of York Regional Council on Thursday, November 21, about their role in securing dedicated and accountable funding for transportation improvements in the provincial spring 2014 budget.

So far, close to half (44%) of York Region elected officials have pledged their support for greater transportation investment by signing CivicAction’s Your32 Pledge to Get a Move On. Signing the pledge shows support for new funding that is dedicated, efficient, transparent & accountable, regional, fair, and sustainable.

Pledge signatories include York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch, 8 of 9 mayors, and 17 out of 21 York Regional Council members. John Tory will urge all York Regional Council members to pledge their support and encourage other York Region elected officials to do the same.

On November 1, CivicAction launched a month-long 32 Reasons to Invest campaign to drive home what’s at stake and what residents will get if we invest in a better regional transportation network. At Your32.com, the campaign invites residents and elected officials to refocus on the crucial decision of how we pay for the regional network we so urgently need, and how we trust governments with our hard-earned dollars to make it happen.
