Affordable Housing Coalition

The Toronto City Summit Alliance launched the Affordable Housing Coalition in November 2003 to focus attention on its Enough Talk recommendations and to work with all three levels of government, community agencies, unions, companies, and activists to make affordable housing in the Toronto region a priority.

On February 9, 2004, the Coalition launched a public campaign in partnership with the City of Toronto, Make Housing Happen. In addition to advocacy and promoting the need for affordable housing in the Toronto region, posters urging citizens to make housing happen were placed in 59 bus shelters and 250 recycling bins across Toronto and a website was created to provide information about housing needs and how to advocate change.

The Coalition included representatives of social agencies, private sector builders, rental housing owners, major financial institutions, and supportive care agencies.
